Sociology is the study of society and the role and interactions of people within society. The subject looks at topics as varied as crime, family, wealth, health, education and the role of factors such as politics and the media on them and others. The subject will help students to understand their own and other people’s experiences and they will learn how to critically analyse social structures, ‘norms’ and institutions.

The A level is demanding and places a heavy emphasis on reading, assimilating information and on essay writing. As a social science it sits well with psychology and the other sciences, but is an excellent subject to take in preparation for a degree in law, criminology or any humanities subject.
