Physics is an opportunity to study and appreciate the forces that dictate the formation and behaviour of the world and indeed the universe around us. It is often said that all science is physics and certainly understanding the fundamentals of physics such as forces, the laws of motion, fields and mechanics is crucial to a full understanding of all branches of science. Physics is also a stimulating real-life subject and students will develop an understanding of topical issues such as the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN laboratory and the fundamentals of space travel.
Good physics students will also be good mathematicians and so the two subjects complement each other well at A level. Physics is essential for the study of engineering degrees and also certain medical sciences such as audiology and optometry.
