A level students will study significant periods in British and European history including the French Revolution and Britain in the 20th century. Studying history is an opportunity to learn about the past and appreciate how society has changed, but more importantly, history teaches students to understand and make sense of the world they live in. It encourages students to view the world and key events from different perspectives.
Skills taught in history are can be applied across a range of disciplines. History students will be literate, organised and able to assimilate large amounts of information quickly. The subject also teaches students how to analyse and interpret original source information and to understand that the knowing who is telling the story is as important as the story being told. History is considered to be a facilitating subject by the Russell Group of universities and an excellent choice for students who wish to pursue a career in law, politics or journalism.
