We have already reached the 6th week of our new academic year which has begun successfully on several levels. There have been a number of changes and new ideas, some have been taken to well, others will take time but the atmosphere in the college is good and feels very positive.
UCAS Applications
I’m delighted to be adding the final touches to a number of medicine, dentistry and Oxbridge university applications this week for their deadline of October 15th. We are working hard with those students to prepare them for some of the most difficult and challenging university applications there are and for their up-coming entrance exams. Students who are not working to this deadline should remember that their deadline is 30th November to have all sections of their UCAS application completed. Students have been assigned a tutor to work with and should contact this tutor immediately to begin working on their applications.
Mock Exam Week
Week six is an important week at the College. It brings with it out first MOCK EXAM week. This is highly significant to our students. It will give them the chance to demonstrate what they have learned over the course of the first half term and places a marker for them to build on in future. It will have added significance for students in the upper sixth and one-year groups because it will help us inform their predicted grades for university and therefore the type of institution they can apply to. Of course, we will not use this statistic alone, but it does provide us with a useful guide and so we ask that students revise thoroughly and prepare well for their tests. Results of mock exams will be sent home when they have been marked and reviewed at the College.
Reports
We will follow-up our first mock exam session with our first reporting session and parents can expect to receive a short, progress report after half-term detailing student progress to date. We will send these by email, so please ensure we have an accessible email address to receive these. Parents are welcome and encouraged to contact us for more ad hoc feedback on the progress of their children at any time. John Wilson
